The IFS AGM is scheduled for 26th April 2012 6-9pm (More details about the AGM will be given nearer the time). If you would like to apply for the following positions:

Please complete the IFS Committee Application Form which can be found on the website (http://www.ifs-su.com/#/ifs-committee-application-form/4562200690) and send the completed form to invest@soton.ac.uk by 16th April 2012 11pm. The application form for the President role will be given out on 23rd March 2012.
The Trading Platform is now ready. It is located on level 1 of the Murray Building (Building 58) just outside the computer rooms. Please feel free to use it to check the real-time charts and market prices. Currently, there are 2 monitors, and another two will be added in about 2 weeks time.

The Barclays Capital Presentation has been CANCELLED

7th November 2011: Credit Suisse Presentation
Representatives from Credit Suisse will be showing you how you should structure your Cover letter and CV with advice given to how to make yourself stand out against other applicants. Interview hints and tips will also be given followed by a networking event with the Credit Suisse representatives.
Refreshments will be provided. There are limited spaces to this event, so please arrive on time to avoid disappointment.

The University of Southampton Investment Society was re-established and remodelled in the summer of 2011 to become University of Southampton Investment & Finance Society (IFS).

We aim to encourage all students to strengthen their knowledge in the financial sector and to increase interaction with the business world, helping them to make successful applications to jobs/internships.

IFS will hold weekly events mostly run by our sponsors. These talks along with networking events are aimed to bring the students into closer contact with the financial businesses.

Upcoming events

JP Morgan Investment Banking/Finance Panal Discussion

Building 58A Room 1019- 6/02/2012
This session will be interactive, at the start each representative will give an introduction into what they do as a job, after this the session will be a Q&A panel discussion, where you will have the opportunity to ask your questions to the representatives. It might be good to use this event page to discuss with other members what you want to ask so that you don't have the same questions asked. This way the event will be more valuable and you will gain a lot more from it.

Bloomberg Terminal Skills Session Room 58/1007 at 6pm.
A representative from Bloomberg will be attending to talk about the Bloomberg Terminal and to give an hour demo of everything you can do with the Bloomberg Terminal and how it will benefit you. At the end of the session you will have the opportunity to try out the system yourself.

First IFS Movie Screening: Film: Margin Call Friday, December 2, 2011 Room TBA
We'll be showing Margin Call, a movie that is loosely based on the events leading up to the 2008 financial crisis. The film gives an interesting insight into Wall Street and some of the thougher decisions made in it's firms. The movie examines the behavior of people in a crisis and their motivations

Pressure Trade: Southampton University Trading Challenge
1. It lasts only two hours and top performers are referred on to prestigious organisations within the above mentioned sectors.
2. You will learn basic trading terminologies and apply trading techniques without the need for any prior knowledge.
3. You can network with like-minded individuals.
4. Additional prizes may be handed out at events.

Representatives from Zurich will be attending to give you an insight into what Zurich does, including the departments which deal with Mergers and Acquisitions and other investment areas. The talk will include details on the application process to Zurich, hints and tips on how to make a successful application etc.
